Design to Support High-Risk Pregnancy

This thesis will explore how design can support emotional and physical needs, specifically during high-risk pregnancy. During a high-risk pregnancy, expectant mothers and their families need extra care; a place to turn for their medical and mental needs. This project will embrace and embody the qualities of calmness, comfort, and tranquility to allow families to feel supported, loved and hopeful in the care environment. Through the design of this facility, women can become empowered to be advocates for their own health, as well as cultivate a climate of security and hope in what is a fearful situation.
